Gotovtsev А.V. Assessment of Xenobiotics Influence on the Degradation Rate of Organic Pollution / Ed.: Corresponding Member of RAS V.I. Danilov-Danilyan. М.: “Water: Chemistry and Ecology”. 2018. – 268 p. ISBN 978-5-9909335-4-5.
The influence of xenobiotics on the rate of decay of organic pollutants is proposed to be assessed by analyzing the dynamics of biochemical oxygen consumption in the aquatic environment. To evaluate the dynamics of biochemical oxygen consumption, formulas are proposed that allow one to calculate the biochemical need for xenobiotics to decompose. To evaluate the biochemical oxygen consumption, formulas are proposed that allow one to calculate the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and the biochemical oxidation rate coefficient (k0) according to the results of measurements of BPCT and BOD2T (biochemical oxygen consumption for time periods T and 2T, respectively). These equations are obtained as a result of solving for the closed system of Streeter-Phelps equations. The data constructed on the basis of these forms for a wide range of experimental values of BPCT and BOD2T make it possible to determine the concentration of organic pollutants in oxygen units (BOD), as well as the rate coefficient of biochemical oxygen consumption (k0). Continuous monitoring and analysis of the dynamics (changes over time) of BOD and K0 in a water body make it possible to identify cases of the appearance of toxins that inhibit microorganisms responsible for the degradation of solid contaminants. Keywords: xenobiotic, water quality, biochemical oxygen demand, biochemical oxygen consumption, biochemical oxidation rate coefficient, monitoring, mathematical modeling, inverse problem. The publication was carried out with financial support from the Russian Science Foundation under the Agreement with the Institute of Industrial Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences No. 14-17-00672 dated July 10, 2014 “New factors affecting objects and measures to reduce its impact on water quality”. In preparing the monograph, some results of studies carried out under grant No. 1049 / GF4 on the topic “Modeling the transfer of natural resources in the Ili-Balkhash basin using a supercomputer” were used.
